Garden Route International Film Festival
Karen Cifarelli has a BS in International Relations from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. She is a two time recipient of the prestigious Grace Ford Salvatori Community Service Award. While attending USC she studied Performing Arts with renowned acting coach Eric Morris of the American New Theatre.
Karen worked for Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope in the casting department and then in development and script analysis for the Jacobsen Company, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Studios. Some of the projects she supported during this time were Mission to Mars and My Friend Joe.
Since 2009, Ms Cifarelli is the owner of the Cifarelli Talent Consulting firm where she manages multi-lingual international actors for film, TV and theatre productions. Ms Cifarelli is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and official juror of the 40th International Emmy Awards.
Cassandra Han is an American casting director. She has been based in Europe for 20 years, working out of Berlin, Rome and the UK/US. Casting Italy credits include James Mangold’s multiple Oscar-nominated FORD VS FERRARI and A HIDDEN LIFE by Terrence Malick (2019 Cannes). She is currently casting Romans for Gaumont’s hit Netflix series BARBARIANS by Academy Award-winner Stefan Ruzowitzky. Other recent credits include RESILIENT for Roberto Faenza and the series LITTLE AMERICA for Dror Zahavi. She street-cast the male lead for AMELIE RENNT (German Film Prize) and cast English-speaking roles for Pif’s IN GUERRA PER AMORE (David di Donatello win; Silver Ribbon nominations). Her Casting Germany credits include the upcoming Polish feature FILIP for Akson Studios and CURON for Netflix.
Cassandra holds an MFA in acting from Trinity Rep in Providence and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. She was a founding member of Ethan Hawke’s New York theater company Malaparte and of Women in Film, Television & Media – Italy. In 2021, she was a European Shooting Stars Jury Member; she has also been a voter for the International Emmys as well as an expert panelist at the Berlinale and the MIA Market in Rome.
Errol Trotman Harewood is a British citizen with Ghanian roots, living in Germany for some thirty years.
His acting career began in Germany in 1992. Performing as the leading man in B.M. Coltes’ NEGROS BATTLE WITH DOGS directed by S. Rühaak and Renate Wolf. He later graced the stages of many of Germany’s best theatres, including: Kammerspiele Düsseldorf, Westfählisches Landes Theatre, Städtischebühne Münster, and Neue Metrople theatre Hamburg.
Errol’s break into films came in 1998 with the role of Peter Landis in the action thriller STRAIGHT SHOOTER where he played opposite Dennis Hopper. Since then he has worked with many stars and notable directors and producers: the Wanowski siblings, Michael “Bully” Herbig, Achim von Borris, Edward Berger to name a few.
In 2015 the TV series “Deutschland 83” won an international Emmy Award for best drama series to which Trotman played US General Jackson in the lead ensemble. Most recently, he played in the lead ensemble of the blockbuster THE LEGEND HUNTERS directed by Simon West & Yifan Li for Wanda Studios, China. This project will premier this Winter 2021.
Besides being an accomplished actor, Errol is also a professionally trained classical drummer/percussionist and singer – jazz, soul, RnB, Blues. He gained his musical training at the Royal Military School of Music, Knellar Hall in London. When he is not performing in front of the camera or on stage, he can be found singing in various clubs throughout Berlin.
As supportive partner and judge in the festival since inception, Ian also is a local entrepreneur in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry, where he has strived for success with his Guesthouse, and enjoyed the local Garden Route lifestyle.
He served as a Director on the board of Knysna Tourism for 5 years till 2011, when he changed his focus towards uplifting people through education. Ian has also featured in local television series.
Over the years his time has been split between various business interests and supporting local community charities, schools, businesses and local community projects.
SedgeRise, Sedgefield Primêr School and Freshstart Recycling Programme are his current projects in development. This is the third year Ian will be judging for GRIFF.
